remember the laughter

remember the late night car rides

the wind rushing through the open windows

the cold air hitting our faces,

hair flying around our heads.

remember looking over at him

seeing his face as he screams the words to a lady gaga song

or her face when wheatus is playing.

remember seeing the darkness curl around the hood

soft light from street lamps cascading across the car's interior

the smell of road and marijuana swirling around us.

remember feeling the joy of being in the moment

of knowing you're living your best life

being the best version of yourself

with the best people.

remember touching his skin

hearing her jokes.

remember the first kiss

eyes closed, mouth open.

remember the butterflies and the metallic taste of strawberries

remember the way he held your hand,

squeezing it

telling you he loves you.

remember his breathing,

heavy, excited.

remember her face when the wheatus song passed

and a one direction song came on.

remember her smiling as she pressed next

remember shouting at her that her taste in music sucks, while laughing at the fact that the next song was from wicked,

a musical she hates.

remember their names,

their faces,

their voices,

their laughs.

the way his body moves when he sticks his hand out the window

or hers when she puts the window up

so she doesn't ruin her hair.

remember how his inappropriate jokes make you swerve out of the lanes

and how her stories make you feel.

remember the fights

the time he embarrassed you

the time she didn't respect you.

the communication issues.

remember the hugs,

the tears,

the late night texts and phone calls.

and always remember the laughter.
